Intro to Clinical Psychology & Abnormal Behavior

This course offers an introduction to abnormal behavior and psychotherapy. Students will learn how to identify the various roles that mental health professionals play within the mental health system; and the theoretical foundations of therapeutic psychology to include: intake, problem identification and assessment, and the facilitation of therapeutic change.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify the various roles that mental health professionals play within the mental health system.
  2. Describe the theoretical foundations of therapeutic psychology to include: intake, problem identification and assessment, facilitation of therapeutic change, evaluation and termination.
  3. Identify mental health issues that affect children, adolescents, adults and older adults.
  4. Recognize fundamental psychological concepts and principles related to abnormal behavior.
